How to know your Wifi password

Wifi, lifelines of billions of people in this lockdown period. Wifi is one of the things that we love if we get it for free. While many love it when they get if free, many others have one of their own.
Many a time, you forget the password of the router you are connected to. Well, it is okay if it is your friend's wifi but if it is your own then, it's a shame. As a result, you cannot access Wifi on any other device as you have no password.
Nowadays, some Android devices let you share wifi password using a QR code to connect other devices with the same wifi you are connected to. But, in the end, you still don't get to know the password.
There are ways using which you can know your wifi password stored in your Android or Windows machine.

Please note that the methods I am going to tell you will work only if you have connected to the wifi router at least once.

Know your Wifi password on an Android device (Root needed)

For an Android device, you would have to root it first.
After rooting the device, just follow the steps given below:
  • Step 1: Install a file explorer like 'ES file explorer' that allows access to the root folder
  • Step 2: Go to the root folder, find the “data” folder
  • Step 3: In “data” folder, go to the location 'misc/wifi' folder where you will see a file named 'wpa_supplicant.conf'
  • Step 4: Open the file using 'text-viewer' in ES explorer
  • Step 5: In the file, you can see the Wifi name with its password below it

Know your Wifi password on Windows device

If you have a windows device, whether it is 7, 8, 8.1 or 10, then, you can know the Wifi password using the 'command prompt'.
Just follow the steps mentioned below and you are good to go:
  • Step 1: Open command prompt, then type “netsh wlan show profiles”, a list of all wifi you have connected to will appear
  • Step 2: Note down the name of the wifi connection whose password you want to check
  • Step 3: After this, type the command “netsh wlan show profile name= name you noted down above key=clear
  • Step 4: Note the text infront of the “Key content” part, it is your wifi password
See, how easy it was to know your password, on a Windows device at least.
I find the method of using Windows device the easiest, you only have to paste some codes in the command prompt and it's done.
Always remember the password you created in order to avoid reading articles like this.
So, that was all guys, now you know the password and can connect other devices using it.
Do share it with people who often forget their passwords.
